Nissan Leaf & IMS Haptic Simulation
In 2019 I managed a project for HaptX to model the interior of two Nissan vehicles for UX design. Auto makers spend hundreds of millions of dollars per year creating physical prototypes of vehicles. The goal project was to prove the viability of modeling automotive UX in a virtual environment with haptics, to reduce the development time and cost of a new vehicle. Our team enabled haptics on two models of Nissan vehicles, allowing designers to feel their designs without building a prototype. My involvement was:
- Managing the project to integrate haptic gloves into multiple Nissan vehicles for proof-of-concept immersive design simulation
- Planning the technical work, providing quotes to the customer, and running scoping meetings with the customer and HaptX
- Gathering requirements from the customer and working with developers to prioritize features, test the results, and improve the experience
- Demonstrating the results to the customer and other stakeholders
